Complete Guide to Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster

Located in the heart of Woody Woodpecker’s Kidzone inside Universal Studios Florida is a hidden gem for kids who might be starting their adventure into riding roller coasters called Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster.

This roller coaster is perfect for kids who have just reached 36” in height. In fact, that’s the exact height my nephew, Noah, was when I took him on his very first ride on this attraction. At three-years-old, it was the very first time he was able to finally step foot onto a wild roller coaster ride.

We first got to the entrance of the coaster thinking he might say no or be too anxious to ride, but we watched him stare at the bright red train spinning down the track with awe in his eyes. We broke his stare and asked if he wanted to go on, and without hesitation he immediately replied, “Yes! I want to go on the ride!” Most importantly, he chose me to be his very first companion on the ride with him.

Best. Aunt. Ever. ::queue the tears::

This thrilling kid-friendly coaster gently swoops and turns through Woody’s nut-factory and the queue is filled with silly puns and corny jokes you’ll find as you’re waiting, in mostly a short line.

FUN FACT: Though Woody doesn’t belong to an actual species, animator Walter Lantz was inspired to create him after a run-in with an acorn woodpecker.

The best part of this ride is that it really makes the kids feel like they’re on a giant coaster without the large drops and barrel rolls. And, might I add, as much as the kids might enjoy it, it’s pretty fun for adults as well! My sister, brother-in-law and I took turns riding with Noah that first day. We all had so much fun riding it that we didn’t mind riding another 3 or 4 or 5 times. Noah even loved it so much, when he saw the red tracks for Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit later that day, he said “That’s the roller coaster I went on!” and I said “Oh no, that one is for the really big kids.” he said “Oh, I want to go on it.”

Fast forward to the next year and, of course, the first ride my nephew wanted to go straight to when we got inside Universal Studios Florida was Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster. This time, Nana was with us and Nana and I took turns riding over and over again. She loved it just as much as I did the first time.

THE RIDE ITSELF

This ride is on a roller coaster track with a train that seats two per car. Once the train is ready to go, it slowly creeps up a track to the very top before hearing Woody Woodpecker’s famous laugh. The train then begins to slowly drop down into a few banked twists and turns before heading back into the station.

EXPLORE KIDZONE

If you have little ones with you, I highly recommend spending some time in Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone. It’s a great spot for them to ride a small rollercoaster for the first time, ride E.T. Adventure, play in a play area, meet some characters and see animals in Animal Actors On Location! Noah absolutely loved seeing all the animals that came out on stage.
