Keeping Our Resorts Ahead of the Curve

Among the latest video series the Disney Files staff has created as part of our “Disney Files On Demand” YouTube playlist is “Details We Dig,” a short-format series highlighting some of our favorite details, legends and backstories at Disney Vacation Club Resorts.

The series debuted earlier this month with an examination of Disney’s Old Key West Resort, the place where, 30 years ago, the magic of Membership was born. From translating the Latin phrases that welcome travelers to the fictional town of Conch Flats to decoding the nautical flags at the resort’s marina, our debut episode shares secrets that may be news even to those who’ve called the resort home for decades.

You can catch that episode here if you haven’t already.

Also “in the can” and readying for broad release as I write this post is an episode exploring the largest resort in the neighborhood – Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa. Following pathways forged by the resort’s “three H’s” – health, history and horses, the episode focuses it magical magnifying glass on everything from architectural elements that have defined the resort since its inception to new details that debuted with the recent re-imagination of its villas.

Look for this and other episodes of “Details We Dig” (as well as our equally new “Disney Drop-In” series that visits interesting Disney places with equally interesting Disney people) by searching “Disney Vacation Club Disney Files On Demand” on YouTube.

And speaking of details at Disney’s Old Key West Resort and Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, renovation work is now underway within the lobby spaces at both resorts, with work scheduled for completion early this fall at Disney’s Old Key West Resort and later in the fall at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa. The latter also finds work extending to the lobby’s exterior, with crews doing structural work on the Carriage House roof and trusses, as well its walking paths.

Coupled with renovations scheduled for completion this fall inside the villas at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, and refurbishment work set to begin this November at The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa (with both projects involving installation of foldaway beds behind living room sofas – a feature made famous at Disney’s Riviera Resort before becoming part of the recent refurbishment of Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa), these projects are part of an ongoing commitment to continuous improvement that keeps our neighborhood of resorts ahead of the curve.

Look for updates about these and other projects in upcoming editions of Disney Files Magazine.

As a kid, I had visited Disney multiple times and it sparked a passion for all things Disney. In 2010, I proposed to my wife in front of Cinderella's Castle an since then it has been a large part of our life. Now as a father of three and experiencing Disney with my wife through our children's eyes, our love for Disney has grown tenfold and I can't wait to share my passion and experiences with you.
