Pathway to Resumption of Cruising in the Americas: Core Elements to Support a Return to Cruising

As the world continues to address challenges regarding COVID-19, the top priority for the entire cruise community—including cruise lines, travel agents, ports, destinations, suppliers and beyond—continues to be the health and safety of passengers, crew and the communities in the places we visit. Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), the leading voice of the global cruise community, has developed the enclosed resources to help our members and partners navigate these unchartered waters together, with one voice.

Following a rigorous planning process and the successful resumption of cruising in Europe and other parts of the world, CLIA and its ocean-going cruise line members have adopted a core set of enhanced health protocols to support a phased approach to resumption of passenger operations in the Americas.

Informed by leading scientists, medical experts, and health authorities, the core elements are the product of extensive work by CLIA cruise lines and their renowned teams of science and medical experts, including the recommendations from MSC’s Blue Ribbon group, Carnival Corporation’s collection of independent experts, and Royal Caribbean Group and Norwegian Cruise Holdings’ Healthy Sail panel released today. In addition, the approach includes the rigorous deployment of similarly informed protocols that have proven effective in other parts of the world, including those by MSC Cruises, Costa, TUI Cruises, Ponant, Seadream, Hapag Lloyd and others.
